MENTAL HEALTH

“Mental Health needs a great deal of attention. It’s the final taboo and it needs to be faced and dealt with.”     Adam Ant

Mental Health is defined as the cognitive, behavioral and emotional well-being. It is about how people deal with situations. Mental health not only affects an individual but also affects relationships, daily living and physical health.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO),

“Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”

It is very important to talk about mental health not only for welfare of an individual but for people associated with it. Anything can hamper one’s mental health. It may be due to disturbance in social, financial or lifestyle changes.

Everyone is fighting their own inner battles. The demons which exist in one’s mind are more dangerous than outside forces. Sometimes people are pushed into darkness that they can never pull out off. People need to openly talk about importance of mental health.

There’s a stigma attached with mental health that whoever seeks out for professional help is termed as ‘mentally ill.’ But, that’s what we have to abolish. Seeking for professional help is not a bad thing. All these people with mental health problems just want to be heard and not to be judged.

The constant comparison induces mental illness. We have to embrace them the way they are. I hope people start talking about it more!
